Scholarship Program
The SECU MD Foundation has proudly supported members furthering their education for over 18 years through our annual scholarship program. Since the program’s inception, we’ve awarded over $1 million in scholarships.
This year, we are focusing our scholarship program on community college students. With lower tuition rates, community colleges are a popular choice for students who want to earn their college degree but struggle with the high tuition costs of a four-year university. But while 80% of community college students nationwide say they want to transfer to a university to earn their bachelor’s degree, only 31% of them actually do. The high cost of college tuition is often cited as a barrier.
Community college students have already demonstrated their commitment to furthering their education. With a SECU MD Foundation scholarship, they can focus their attention on completing their degree program instead of worrying about how to pay for college.
We look forward to awarding $120,000 in scholarships in 2024 and helping this new batch of scholars.
Applying for a SECU MD Foundation Scholarship
2024 SECU MD Foundation Scholarship Program Eligibility
- SECU Member in Good Standing
- Currently enrolled at a Maryland community college or University System of Maryland school who recently transferred within the last 18 months
- Attending a University System of Maryland school for the 2024-25 academic year
Applications for the 2024 Scholarship Program are being accepted from March 18 – May 3. Winners will be announced in June.

FAQs
All applicants must be a SECU member to apply. If your child needs to open their SECU account, please visit our SECU website for more information about how to open an account or make an appointment with your closest Financial Center.
Applicants will need to complete an application and will be asked to write a 500 – 750 word essay on a pre-determined essay prompt.
All applicants will be notified of the status of their scholarship application by mid-June each year.
The amount awarded for scholarships changes each year, but 12 students will receive $10,000 each in 2024.
