The SECU MD Foundation proudly supports members pursuing their higher education goals through our annual scholarship program.

These awards help Maryland college students take the next step in their educational journey by removing a heavy financial barrier and supporting their long-term financial well-being. Since the program’s inception, we’ve awarded over $1.2 million in scholarships.

In 2025, the SECU MD Foundation awarded twelve exceptional college students with $120,000 in scholarships.

2026 scholarship applications are open until May 1, 2026

Be a Maryland resident and a SECU member in good standing.

Not a SECU member? Become one today.

Be a current Maryland community college student who is transferring to a Maryland four-year public college or university, or who has done so in the past 18 months.

Attend a Maryland four-year public college or university for the 2026-27 academic year.
APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP
Students are not eligible if they have accepted a SECU MD Foundation scholarship in the past 10 years or are a SECU or SECU MD Foundation employee, director, volunteer or an immediate family member/relative or dependent of a SECU employee or SECU MD Foundation employee, director or volunteer as defined by the SECU MD Foundation.

Frequently asked questions

All applicants must be a SECU member to apply. If your child needs to open their SECU account, please visit our SECU website for more information about how to open an account or make an appointment with your closest Financial Center.

Applicants will need to complete an application and will be asked to write a 500 – 750 word essay on a predetermined essay prompt.

All applicants will be notified of the status of their scholarship application by mid-June each year.

The amount awarded for scholarships changes each year. For the 2025 program, 12 students will each receive $10,000.
