Community Impact Grants

SECU and the SECU MD Foundation are providing $1,000,000 in community impact grants over the next five years, benefitting Maryland nonprofits devoted to helping others in support of health, education and development initiatives across the state.

The grants are in memory of Donald Tynes, Sr. who served on SECU’s Board of Directors for more than 47 years. He played an important role in the credit union’s growth and development through his dedication and passion for public service. The SECU MD Foundation is working with the following grant recipients to establish how the funds will be used across each organization. From supporting the Fine Arts department at Morgan State University, to the Cancer Center at Sinai and food trucks with the Maryland Food Bank, we look forward to providing support to each impact area that Donald Tynes Sr. was also committed to supporting. We invite you to help support our community impact grant partners, The Maryland Food Bank, Morgan State University, and Sinai Hospital in honor of Donald Tynes, Sr. Thank you for your commitment to our communities.

The Maryland Food Bank supports food-insecure Marylanders. The grant funds will be used to support the Maryland Food Bank delivery trucks and the Pantry on the Go program that brings fresh produce and other foods into underserved urban, suburban, and rural communities. Sinai Hospital is the largest community hospital in Maryland. To provide a better setting for patient’s battling cancer that contributes to their overall healing, the hospital will use the grant funding to support the construction of a new Cancer Center. Morgan State University is Maryland’s preeminent public urban research university. The grant will support an Endowment Fund that will be created to carry on the legacy of Donald Tynes, Sr., benefiting the Fine Arts Department and the world-renowned Morgan State University Choir.
